"Rurouni Kenshin " is a story about a wandering samurai (Rurouni) named Kenshin Himura. When he appears in Tokio with his sword, Kaoru Kamiya thinks that he`s the Battousai that claims to use the Kamiya Kasshin style (actually she teaches this sword style) and murders people. She wants to defeat him to restore the reputation of the Kamiya Dojo.

Kenshin shows her his sword with a reversed blade with that he can`t possibly slay anyone and so Kaoru leaves him alone. But she doesn`t know how right she was: Kenshin is the well-known and feared "Hitokiri Battousai" (Hitokiri: assasin/murderer // Battousai: a title for swordsmasters) from the Meiji restauration times, but he sweared not to kill anyone anymore and keeped wandering and helping others for over ten years.

Kaoru sees another swordsman and immediately blames him to be that fake Battousai that is destroying the good reputation of the Dojo. He attacks her with a real sword and nearly kills her but Kenshin saves her. She swoons (by a little scratch on her arm XD) and so Kenshin has to bring her home to the Dojo. As a thank for the good treatment by Kenshin she wants to host him for a while.

So he becomes a part of her "family" -two little girls and an old doctor- because she asks him not to leave. Later "little Yahiko" joins the Dojo, too. He`s an orphan that is used by a mafia gang to steal money. of course Kaoru and Kenshin rescued him and gave him a home. Sanosuke Sagara also is often at the Dojo after a fight with Kenshin in that he recognized that his point of view was wrong, but he lives somewhere else in a own house.

He`s a tough fighter-for-hire who is against the Meiji Government because his friends and squad with who he fought for the revolution troops were killed by a Meiji commando because they knew too much.

The first part of the anime series introducts the main characters and their (partly very sad) pasts.

The second part is about the fight against Makoto Shishio, the successor of Kenshin as the Battousai. Shishio knew too much about the dirty secrets of the Meiji restauration, so he got shot and burned alive by his own men, but somehow he survived and has to wear bandages like a mummy. He wants revenge and the control over whole Japan, so he gathers a group of other good fighters who are also against the government to take control.

Now only Kenshin, Sano (abbreviation for Sanosuke) and Saitoh, a sadistic, but very cool police officer (he was the leader of the 3rd squad of the Shinsengumi and he is also against the government, but his motto is  Aku-Soku-Zan (hope I wrote it right ;D): slay evil immediately to save innocent lifes, so he fights Shishio too) can stop the crazy freakin` madmummy (that`s my nickname for Shishio because he`s a psycho ^^°).

In the 3rd part, Kenshin finally finds rest after finishing up some minor enemies (eg. a secret German (that`s where I come from! ^^) organisation that wants to take control over the whole planet -no, not Nazis, but something similar).

He and Kaoru fall in love together -that was obviously- and it looks like they`ll marry but you can`t see it in the series, but in the OVA`s.

What a happy end!
